GastroSmiths (Singapore. Bugis)
Was in the mood for some cafe-hopping during lunch and decided to try GastroSmiths because they had a lunch menu that looked quite appetising and because of the delicious looking strawberry shortcake dessert.
Quite a small indoor seating area so chose to sit outside as it would be quieter. Good thing it was an overcast day so sitting outside was cooling
Shio-koji prawn linguini $16.50 (top)
Slow-cooked pork collar pasta $21 (bottom)
The pasta for both was cooked well, with a nice texture and springiness to it.
The sauce for the shio-koji prawn was a tomato-based sauce but tasted quite unique.
The pork collar pasta was very rich, the pork was very delicious - soft but still having some 口感 (texture/bite). It was nice for the first few bites, but later had the 腻/gelat/greasy feeling because of the cheese and the richness of the pork. Would recommend sharing this dish.
Strawberry "shortcake" (with pistachio ice cream) $12.50
Nice combination. Liked the varying textures of the cake, strawberry and pastry.
Overall, felt the cooking was good and quite fine considering the price. The staff were also nice and provided good service. Worth visiting once, but probably won't visit again as the menu is quite limited.
